Ethereal Ensemble
Ethereal CDs
Ethereal has independently released
three CDs.
Whispers in the Moonlight (2006)

In its first year of formation Ethereal recorded 'Whispers in the Moonlight', a collection of nine original tracks and three traditional Celtic tunes. The title is drawn directly from the opening lyrics to ‘Calm’, a favourite of the ensemble featuring Fran Docking on solo guitar and voice. The title speaks of a gentle stillness and beauty found in much of the music on the CD, which is perhaps a particular offering this ensemble bring to the listening audience. Original spoken verse is at times set to original music creating a haunting and powerful sound as in ‘Flying East’, inspired by the image of a pair of black cockatoos soaring over Mt Wellington at dusk. Improvisations like ‘Mountain Gypsies’ can at times take on a gypsy or jazz feel, while the serenity of the flute featured in originals ‘Amberleaves’ and ‘Timeless Mist’ breathes tranquil calmness.
Tracks: Ethereal Trance, Amber Leaves, Calm, Thugamar fe in an Samhradh Linn, The Lilt, O'Keefe's Slide, The Huon, Mountain Gypsies, Ethereal Mountain, Flying East, Timeless Mist, Fear a Bhata

Homeland echoes of the journey (2007)

In a single eight hour improvisation session at Red Planet Studio, Hobart, Tasmania, Ethereal recorded the seven long play tracks that make up 'Homeland echoes of the journey'. These structured improvisations were based on original musical ideas and themes, allowed to take form and become fully created in the studio on the recording day. It was a magical moment of inspired music making and the CD went on to win 'Best Contemporary Classical CD' at the Arts Tasmania 2008 Amplified Awards.
Tracks: Earth's Realm, Celtic Reverie, Capricious Dance, Returning, Just Beyond, Reflections, Reminiscence
